What is IDI Youth?

IDI Youth is the vibrant organization of IDI Calgary, dedicated to empowering young people to engage in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and community service. IDI Youth provides a platform for individuals to connect, share their diverse experiences, and work collaboratively toward creating a more inclusive society. By offering opportunities for youth to actively participate in dialogue and outreach, IDI Youth fosters a new generation of leaders who champion mutual respect, empathy, and social cohesion.

One of the key aspects of IDI Youth or community mentors is their involvement in community projects that directly impact local neighbourhoods. For example, to visit a senior care center, where they will interact with residents through activities such as storytelling, cultural exchange, and games that bridge generational and cultural gaps. These hands-on experiences are an opportunity for the youth to practice empathy, learn from others’ life stories, and contribute to breaking down social barriers.

Beyond outreach activities, IDI Youth plays a crucial role in organizing workshops, events, and discussions that tackle issues like cultural misunderstanding, stereotypes, and prejudice. Through these initiatives, they encourage young people to speak up, listen actively, and embrace diversity as a vital component of their personal growth and societal contribution. IDI Youth members are passionate about making positive change, and they are committed to creating spaces where everyone can feel heard, valued, and understood.

As a part of the broader IDI mission, IDI Youth continues to build on the organization’s foundational principles of dialogue, collaboration, and inclusion, with the aim of shaping a future where young people lead with compassion and respect for all cultures and identities.
